Austin-based BuzzPromoter LLC says it is developing a rapidly growing business that uses cell phone text messages for business promotions.
The company says it is sending 120,000 promotional text messages a month on behalf of more than 40 customers, mostly bars and nightclubs.
The text messages can be turned into discounts on drinks and other offers for bar patrons who agree in advance to receive messages.
CEO Robert Bacon says text messages are an efficient way to reach customers of some businesses because the most active users of wireless text message services are in the 18-to-35 age group, which tracks with the target markets for entertainment businesses.
